Tonight my daughter had her first soccer practice. This makes me officially a soccer dad and further justifies my admiration of the mini van parked in front of the house.
Last week, the soccer organization had an evaluation for the under 6 league. They gauged the capability of the kids to make the teams as even as possible. Ever since then she has been saying she didn’t want to do soccer, which bummed my wife and I out a little bit.
But tonight she was really excited to start, and she did great. She seems to have a natural athletic talent that honestly surprised me a bit. We have kicked the ball around before but never worked on actual skills with her.
Watching her pass with precision, give good strong kicks, and stop the ball with her foot made me proud. To be honest, I would be proud even if she wasn’t as good as she is.
This will be good for her. There are a ton of life lessons to be learned from playing team sports. I’m hoping she continues to enjoy it as she improves her abilities. I’m looking forward to watching and encouraging her.
Excellent post
