I recorded a version of my song Ghosts to release to Spotify. I wanted it to have a lot of soul and give listeners the feeling of being a fly on the wall listening to it. So it’s not overly produced, crisp or clear.
It was recorded by setting my phone down on top of the piano while I played and sang at the same time. No high tech microphones, no metronome, no overdubbing. Just me in the room (and the dog — multiple takes were ruined because he started walking around or barking).
Then I brought it into the computer for some light equalization and compression just to improve the sound a bit. I also added a little more reverb to give it an even more ethereal feeling to fit with the vibe of the song.
What resulted is, in my opinion, a beautifully lo-fi sound with lots of natural ambience.
Pre-save it on Spotify and it will automatically be added to your library and follow me so you can be notified of future releases (there will be more).
