The house is quiet this morning. The kids are finally sleeping past 7:00. I know I should be using this time to exercise or be productive. But instead I’m taking advantage of the solitude to mentally prepare myself for the day.
The soft pitter-patter of the rain provides a calming background noise, with the occasional slapping of a waterfall from the clogged gutter. I should really fix that. There’s a distant hiss of cars rushing off to their morning routine. Off to work, daycare, the grocery store.
A cool summer breeze rustles the leaves. It’s a welcome relief from the past few days of hot, humid July air. The low call of a mourning dove breaks up the songs of birds as they search for their morning meal. The peacefulness is interrupted by the screeching of a blue jay somewhere in the trees above. Another calls back.
The kids are awake and the day is in full swing.
